    Wesley So’s Record-Breaking Tournament Wins and Achievements

    Wesley So is one of the world’s most accomplished chess players newslokmat. He has won numerous tournaments and accolades and holds a number of records. In February 2015, So became the first player in history to win six consecutive tournaments, taking first place at the Tata Steel Challengers in Wijk aan Zee, Netherlands. His streak of six wins included the Qatar Masters Open and the Tradewise Gibraltar Chess Festival, both of which he won back-to-back saverudata. In August 2015, So set another record when he became the first player in history to win both the US Open Championship and US Championship in the same year. He also finished second in the World Rapid Championship in 2016, the highest finish ever by an American player. In 2017, So won the World Blitz Championship, becoming the first Filipino player to do so. He also won the 2017 London Chess Classic and the 2017 Grand Chess Tour. Finally, in January 2019, So became the first player in history to win the Tata Steel Chess Tournament twice uptodatedaily, winning both the 2017 and 2019 editions. Throughout his career, So has won 15 international tournaments, including two Tata Steel Chess Tournaments, two US Opens, two US Championships, two Grand Chess Tours, one World Blitz Championship, the London Chess Classic, and five other tournaments. So’s achievements have been recognized with numerous awards, including the Philippine Sports Commission’s 2017 Male Athlete of the Year, the 2017 Philippine National Sports Award, and the 2018 Tagisan ng Bayan Award.     In 2005, Wesley began to make a name for himself on the international stage. He was the youngest player ever to participate in the Asian Junior Chess Championship and he won the event, becoming the youngest Asian Junior Champion. This victory propelled him onto the world stage and he was soon competing against some of the best players in the world. In 2006, Wesley won the Asian Junior Chess Championship for the second time and was awarded the title of Grandmaster.
