In 2005, Wesley began to make a name for himself on the international stage. He was the youngest player ever to participate in the Asian Junior Chess Championship and he won the event, becoming the youngest Asian Junior Champion. In 2006, Wesley won the Asian Junior Chess Championship for the second time and was awarded the title of Grandmaster.
