To become a member of the bar, a lawyer must be 18 years old and have completed a juris doctor degree or an equivalent degree from an ABA-approved law school. A Master of Laws degree is not accepted as a substitute for a J.D. Graduates of law schools that are not ABA-approved are also not eligible to sit for the bar examination.
