The UK government has expressed concern over Mr Johal’s case, and has written to the Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab asking him to intervene. The British government has also said it will do its utmost to assist the family. He is the consultant orthopaedic surgeon at the Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust. He has clinical interests in soft tissue knee surgery, meniscal and knee ligament surgery, and partial and total knee replacement. He is an expert in patellofemoral arthritis and medial patellofemoral ligament reconstruction, which can be difficult to undergo with arthroscopic procedures.
Dr. Johal is an internationally recognized orthopaedic surgeon. He has a background in trauma surgery and was a trustee and chairman of the India Cultural Centre of Canada. He also served as president of the International Punjabi Society of B.C., and was a member of the University of Cambridge’s Department of Orthopaedic Surgery. He was recognized by his peers with a doctorate of laws from the University of British Columbia in 1989. On Canada Day, Dr. Johal was awarded an honorary doctorate of law degree from the University of British Columbia.
Mr. Johal was a leading member of the Indo-Canadian community in British Columbia. He was a director of the Children’s Hospital and the India Cultural Centre of Canada. He actively supported Indo-Canadians in their integration into mainstream society.
