3 Keys in Enhancing Your Online Security

    JonesBy JonesDecember 7, 2022No Comments3 Mins Read

How secure do you feel when you go online time and time again?

If online security is not something you find plentiful in your world, is it time to do something about it?

By being more secure online, you lower the odds of becoming an online victim. That is I.D. theft, cyber bullying, stalking and countless other crimes that can take place on the Internet.

With that in mind, how best for you to go about enhancing your online security?

Don’t Set Yourself up to Become the Next Victim

In your efforts to be safer each time out online, here are a trio of keys to focus in on:

    1. Have software protecting you – One of the best defenses is having great software. If you’ve not done so up to now, take the time to protect yourself online. Do some research to see what type of software can give you the best protection possible. From Norton device protection to other options on the table, find the one best suited to your needs. In having such protection, you can more times than not stay one step ahead. That is of people looking to potentially do you harm.
    1. Avoid making it easier to be a victim – Many criminals online look for those they’d consider to be vulnerable. As such, you do not want to make it easy for these people with bad intentions to have an easier time getting to you. For example, do not give out personal information without knowing who it may well be going to. While there are times online where you will need to divulge some details, know who it is going to and what it is for. As an example, you never give out your Social Security number, banking info and so on without knowing what it is for. Make sure if you do give out any sensitive info online that you have a secure connection to do so. You also want to be quite careful when you are using social media. For instance, do not announce on Facebook or Instagram that you are away from home on a trip and your place is empty. This can in fact literally open the door to a robbery and more. Wait until you get back from a trip to post photos and talk about the time you had away from home.
    1. Learn from any online miscues you make – Last; make it a point to learn from any online miscues you make over time. The last thing you want to do is repeat the same gaffe time and time again. The hope is you get the message the first time out and not repeat a key mistake again. You also might look to view some online safety videos, read blogs talking about such safety and more. Educate yourself as much as possible so you are a better online consumer moving forward.

When it comes to enhancing security, will you make the right moves or regret making mistakes?
