With all the news coming from the tech industry about new products, it is easy to get lost. However, there are some things that you may want to know about. For example, did you know that Microsoft, Facebook, and Amazon have created a platform that uses artificial intelligence? And that Intel, Google, and Twitter are also developing similar technology?
Intel
In the last quarter, Intel reported a 3% decline in revenue. This comes as the company has been refocusing on building a future around next-generation chips. But it also has its fair share of issues. Some lines of business, including data center, have suffered.
In the AI space, Intel has spent over $1 billion on startups. Some of those investments have been made in a variety of industries, from sports content to medical tech. The company has also worked with several academic institutions.
One of those investments has been in an Israeli AI chipmaker. Intel is hoping to compete against rivals like Nvidia.
This year in particular has been a good ol’ fashion dog sled for AI and machine learning startups. The latest entrant is the aforementioned Sentropy which just about stole the crown from the un-dedicated throne of a nebulous AI research firm a few short months ago. In a world of one size fits all AI, Sentropy stands out for its willingness to experiment. As a result, it has already racked up some significant wins in the form of funding, employees and a swagbag. Not to mention, it may have earned the title of best AI research firm in the industry. That said, the company’s illustrious alumnus has a long and winding road ahead of it.
Microsoft
Microsoft AI is present in a wide variety of helpful applications. It automates repetitive tasks and helps users focus on key processes.
Microsoft supports the use of technology to help solve global problems. It provides expertise to address a variety of humanitarian and environmental issues. In addition, it gives grants to nonprofits using its technology to help the world.
The company also plans to bring more intelligence to its platform. It has already begun implementing its AI-powered features in its Office 365 suite. For example, it recently introduced a PowerPoint QuickStarter. This allows users to easily import data from a picture and insert data from a table form.
Amazon
Amazon’s AI is fast becoming a household name. With Amazon’s new “Create with Alexa” tool, kids can build animated stories that play music and sound effects. The program launched in the US today. It generates five to ten line stories based on the answers it receives, and includes a background image.
Amazon is also working on an AI chip for Echo that would allow the device to parse information faster. That means it could be used for simple tasks, such as playing music and searching for a dog breed in an image. Another tool in the Amazon AI platform is CodeWhisperer, which lets developers create pair programming code. This tool is available in the AWS IDE Toolkit and Visual Studio Code.
If you’re going to buy a new iPhone this year, you’re going to have to spend your hard-earned cash in the real world, and the Apple Store is a great place to do it. And it’s not just because of the Apple Store’s slick, friendly customer service. This is especially true if you’re looking to buy a new iPhone X, but there are plenty of reasons why you should go to the Apple Store. You may not be able to buy a squeaky clean, new iPhone X, but you can get your hands on a shiny new iPhone Xs Max, the first-generation iPad Air or even an older model iPod Touch.
