Lupita Nyong’o is a Kenyan-Mexican actress, director, and producer who has achieved extraordinary success in Hollywood. Born in Mexico City, Mexico to Kenyan parents, Nyong’o was raised in Kenya and attended college in the United States. Her apps session career began in 2008 when she starred in the short film East River. Nyong’o’s rise to fame began when she starred as Patsey in Steve McQueen’s 2013 film 12 Years a Slave, for which she won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. She has gone on to star in numerous other films, including Black Panther, Us, and Queen of Katwe. Nyong’o has also served as a producer for the Netflix documentary The Circle of Life. In addition to her acting and producing timechi credits, Nyong’o is an active philanthropist. She is a Global Ambassador for the non-profit organization WildAid, working to end illegal wildlife trade. She also works with the Makeup for Melanin Girls Foundation, which provides beauty and self-care products to young women of color. Nyong’o is an inspiration to many, especially young women of color, for her accomplishments and her dedication to making the world a better place.
