    Types Of Haircut Numbers

    JonesBy JonesMarch 3, 2023No Comments4 Mins Read

Most people don’t have the required knowledge about different haircut numbers whenever their barbers ask them. It is important to know the haircut number that corresponds to the haircut you want, regardless of whether you are cutting your own hair or having someone else do it. You should know that the length of hair left corresponds to the clipper number.

Most of the time, you will find the clipper number indicated on the guard. If you have a haircut requiring length gradation, you may have to use more than one guard. Most clippers have eight guards, all of which represent the different clipper numbers. Here are the types of haircut numbers that you should learn about before getting any haircut.

    1. Haircut Number Zero

For this number, there is no need to attach any guard, as all you need is the guard that is permanently attached to the clippers.

The haircut numbers with the lowest value are used for extremely short haircuts. For instance, in the case of haircut number zero, the hair is cut to the scalp level.

You get to use this haircut number only if you want to leave the scalp exposed. It is used for the bald haircut or any other haircut that is close to the skin fade haircut.

    2. Haircut Number One

For this haircut number, the hair left on the scalp is about an eighth of an inch. The hair left is a little bit longer than the one left when guard number 0 is used. However, the difference between the two is very small, and someone who is not very keen may miss it.

This haircut number is mostly used to create taper as a transition between different hair lengths. The number one haircut number may help to cover the scalp just a little bit as compared to number 0, where the scalp is left completely exposed.

    3. Haircut Number Two

It is mostly used to do fade haircuts. The hair left from the scalp is neither too long nor too short. The estimated length is around a quarter of an inch.

Using the haircut numbers starting from two and the higher numbers allows you to leave noticeable hair on the head. The scalp is completely covered unless someone tries really hard to see it.

This is the perfect guard number to use if your hair is naturally thick and you want it to appear thin after getting it cut.

    4. Haircut Number Three

This haircut leaves long hair on the scalp that is completely covered. The length of the hair left is about three-eighth of an inch.

The haircut number three is usually the biggest guard number that hair stylists use to keep the short faded sides. It can be used for cuts that are between short and medium hair, like the buzz hairstyle.

    5. Haircut Number Four

The hair left on the scalp after using this haircut number is about half an inch. The number four haircut is the medium of all the guard sizes. It can therefore be used to brush off some medium-length haircuts as the crew cut.

The haircut number four can be used for all types of hair, either thin or thick. Most haircuts done with this guard number include a fade haircut using a lower number guard on the side.

    6. Haircut Number Five

The hair left is about five-eighth of an inch. Commonly used for taper styling in most medium-length hairstyles for men.

    7. Haircut Number Six

The hair left is about three-quarters of an inch for this haircut number. Similarly to haircut number five, it is used for tapered haircuts.

    8. Haircut Number Seven

It can be considered as the second up in the hierarchy of haircut numbers. The hair left is six-eight of an inch and used for long men’s haircuts.

If you have to use this haircut number, you will also need smaller guard numbers for fades. It is one of the best options if you want to leave long hair on the scalp.

    9. Haircut Number Eight

It is the biggest of all the haircut numbers. The hair left on the scalp is considerably long, and other smaller guard sizes could be used for fades if needed.
